The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani in his speech while celebrating Youm-e-Shuhda (Martyrs day) paid tribute to the martyrs of the armed forces for their sacrifices to save the country & its sovereignty.
The nation’s prayers are with the armed forces of Pakistan and this is our real strength. We pay homage and thanks to the families of the martyrs and it were the sacrifices of the ‘Shuhda’ that enabled Pakistanis to breathe freely. Pakistan is a blessing for us and huge sacrifices were made for its creation he said.
However, despite these sacrifices, the nation is still away from the vision envisioned by the founding father. The nation’s spirit and determination has not gone down rather stays strong and I believe that the nation still has the strength and approach to reach great heights,” he said in his speech.
Pakistan is a peace loving country. Our quest for peace is essentially based on a genuine desire to improve our lot and that of our future generations. Let no one see it as a weakness.
Like each and every Pakistani, the army is also doing its bit to strengthen democracy he added.
He urged the nation to do away with social, ethnic and linguistic differences and support democracy.
The holding of elections is a gateway to find solutions for problems and we will provide a base for election as he asserted.
There is no place for looting and personal gains in a democracy and only honest (people) can end the game between democracy and dictatorship. The real win for any democracy is when it comes up to expectations, COAS clarified.
The speech of General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani no doubt has historical significance, his iteration & reminder towards holding of election at given date and getting the real democracy on board asking that the nation may achieve & materialize the actual dream of founding father Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah & Allam Iqbal. He continued that despite great & remarkable sacrifices of our soldiers to protect the country and its boundaries, the political evolution of the country has no conformity with the ideologies of founding father, it seems an unfinished agenda.
He emphasized that how we can attain a sustainable democracy if vote solely on the basis of honesty, sincerity, merit and competence then there would be no reason to fear dictatorship or to grudge the inadequacies of our present democratic system he said.
In a normal interpretation COAS was of the view that if we elect a true, loyal, honest & a real crusader who feels the pain of its people and works to entail democracy in its essence without any linguistic, sectarian biases and ethnic then why afraid of dictatorship.
The message from COAS is very candid and it becomes our legal and obligatory duty to use the right of vote to make it possible that we may have a true and real democracy in the country.
While discussing COAS message at public forum in order to maintain democracy one of the participant enquired that how it seems possible if Election commission of Pakistan (ECO) did not adhere & implemented that actual mandate highlighted in nomination papers while screening candidates nomination papers to confirm his/ her eligibility for election.
There has been an obvious negation of rule and regulation framed by ECP to check candidate’s legitimacy to go for election. Those disqualified earlier on different ground later declared qualified to go for forthcoming election.
Among lot of anomalies on the part of ECP here we quote one example of PML-N Shareef Brothers corruption cases where though NAB had notified to ECP yet ECP allowed them eligible pointed out by one university student in the hall.
Whereas NAB had informed the ECP that the corruption references are against Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif, the authority had on October 8, 2012 informed the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench that the Sharif family was loan defaulters to the tune of Rs4 billion in three corruption references against them.
How the wheel of democracy in Pakistan can thrive and flourish if such unbridled corruption continues and goes unattended and advertently court verdict is kept on hold by our judiciary & related Institutions
How the action of ECP can be termed a lenient and sincere while exercised their power to screen the candidate.
Can the country have an assurance those after assuming offices will pay off their loan and make the national treasury a trustworthy national wallet?
People of the country believe in sincere leadership and real crusader who can help and support them, prone to serve the people, come out of their palatial houses. Listen to them and resolve their chronic problem in which they have been confined since decades asked by group of people discussing COAS speech at public forum.
Now it is less than a week Election going to be held on 11th May 2013 lets hope for the best & pray to prosper & progress the country, concluded the program with this sweet words.
